In true startup fashion, our roots can be traced to a garage in Leesburg, VA in 2013. While working with local startups, our Founder & CEO, Tim Winkler, realized that traditional staffing models didn’t align with the growth needs of startups. Working with those firms felt transactional and the costs were way outside a startup's budget. There was a need for a solution that was relational, community driven, and flexibly priced. With this in mind, hatch I.T. was formed, along with customized models that transform the way early-stage and high-growth startups scale. Fast forward 7 years and 11 employees later, hatch has developed a platform that provides a roadmap to guide startups from MVP through all stages of growth. After proving this model with dozens of startups across DC, Maryland, & Virginia, we realized it was needed in all emerging startup markets. With the momentum we saw in the Triangle, it was a no brainer to expand into Raleigh/Durham.

What do you like best about being a recruiter and/or working with software engineers/startups?

What I like best about being a recruiter is the challenge, and along with that, the satisfaction of finding the right person for the right job, and the right job for the right person. We are in the business of people, so knowing that I not only helped a growing startup find exactly the right engineer, but  also an engineer the job of their dreams – it’s an awesome feeling.

About 7 years now!

Anything else you’d like to add? Advice for other recruiters? Advice for software engineers? Thoughts on the future of startups in DC?

Advice for engineers finding jobs: find one or two recruiters that you really like and trust. Once you build that relationship, it’s a much more fluid and can (believe it or not) be a fun process!  For recruiters: remember that these are people’s livelihoods we’re dealing with and to always be considerate of their time and personal lives. For both recruiters and engineers: be open and honest! Developing that open and honest relationship fosters good will and good vibes. And we all need a little bit of that from time to time.
